Bulletin hosts panel Summit for North

- CHRIS McMAHON

QUEENSLAND business and political leaders will be in Townsville next Wednesday to discuss how to get the region’s economy moving.

The event, to be held at the Bulletin’s offices in the city, will be the first time the Business Advisory Council has met outside of the southeast.

It is understood the council will discuss everything from the City Deal, to firing up the North Queensland economy.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the council played a vital role in planning.

“We’re seeing promising signs of economic recovery around Townsville, including the Townsville Stadium and a number of resource and renewable energy projects kicking off,” she said.

Business Advisory Council North Queensland representative Rabieh Krayem said it was a great opportunity for Townsville to be shown off to influential leaders and investors.

“It’s an opportunity for the city. We are going to have 20odd business leaders from Queensland, as well as the Premier and ministers, come to Townsville,” he said.

“The key for us is to talk about what is happening in Townsville and understanding what the City Deal is about. It’s a great opportunity for those key business people to understand what does it mean for the city.”

Mr Krayem said it would also be an important networking opportunity for the city’s business leaders.

“Importantly we will be able to discuss what is happening in the city and get some updates for the business people,” he said.

“Networking will also be a key part of the meeting, it allows people from the city to meet with the advisory council.

“When you have a lot of key business people coming to the city, it allows us to put our best foot forward and sell the city.

“I think this is going to do great things for the city – it’s an exciting time.”
