Favourite too quick for rivals

TUESDAY night’s greyhound meet at the showgrounds featured 11 races, including the final of the RQ Maiden 1000 over 380m and the final of the 4/ 5th Grade over 380m.

The track was on fire on Tuesday night with some very smart times.

Race two was the RQ Maiden 1000 Final over 380m.

The favourite was Maywyn’s Rocker ( 5) and he didn’t let the punters or his trainer down.

This blue boy stepped well from the boxes, went straight to the lead from Belle’s Hawke ( 3), No Not Me ( 6) and Dylan’s Pick ( 2) and with a small scrimmage back in the field it did not change the outcome.

Maywyn’s Rocker ( Jay Schafer) went on to score by 5.75 lengths in 21.78, a new PB for this dog, second was Belle’s Hawke for Steve Dodd and in third was No Not Me for Rhonda Essery.

Owner Renee Ashelford was also on track to watch her dog take out the final.

Race seven was the Burnett Family 4/ 5th Grade Final over 380m.

The greyhounds only went about 30m out of the boxes when the lure stopped with the race declared a “no race”.

Tuesday’s race meeting will be a twilight meet, it is also the Heats of the Young Guns over the 380m.

The winners of the Townsville Greyhound Club’s Easter raffle were Merv Parker ($ 300 voucher from Lounds Fresh Seafood), Mick and Kim Waters ($ 200 voucher from Angliss Meats Townsville) and Mick Breen ($ 100 of club merchandise).
