Roar to add two from overseas

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

BRISBANE Roar plan to sign two foreigners – a striker and a winger – as they rebuild their attacking arsenal for the 2017- 18 A- League season.

With centre- forward Jamie Maclaren, wide man Brandon Borrello and creative spark Thomas Broich all having played their last matches for the club, the Roar have recruitment work ahead.

Coach John Aloisi and football director Craig Moore are set to head overseas on a scouting mission, with their stops to include Brazil, where Moore has made some key contacts on previous visits.

Danish midfielder Thomas Kristensen is the only foreigner on Brisbane’s books who is certain to return next season.

Spanish winger Arana had minor ankle surgery yesterday and it’s still unknown whether he will be at the club next season.

Either way, it’s unlikely the Roar will fill their permitted visa player quota of five.

Instead, the Roar’s foreign legion will number either three or four, including the two players they plan to sign.

The Roar will start pre- season training on July 3.

Maclaren confirmed his departure after Brisbane’s season- ending 3- 2 AFC Champions League loss to South Korean visitors Ulsan Hyundai at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

“I’ve grown as a player but when you feel like you’ve reached the limit, you feel like you want to go that next step … it’s a good time for me ( to leave),” said Maclaren.
