Instructors will polish moves in Seoul

- MICHAEL THOMPSON

TOWNSVILLE’S Nigel Paul has waited more than three decades for the test in front of him.

His mind is ready and so is his body, now there is nothing more to do but rise to the occasion.

Paul today travels to South Korea with fellow senior ITF Taekwon- Do instructors Andrea Smith and Ben Hethrington in a quest to update their finely tuned skills.

Paul will be testing to become a 7th degree master instructor after 31 years of non- stop training which started in Hughenden in 1986.

Smith has a similar background, having started instructing as a teenager and winning the 2013 overall women’s grand champion title in England.

Hethrington is also an international competitor and began training from a young age in Townsville.

“It’s a huge milestone for us; to have three of our instructors going over is massive thing for us,” Paul said.

“To be at the top you have to learn and compete with the people at the top, and they’re going to be in South Korea.

“I think it will be a tremendous experience and it’s perfect timing too because we’re starting to prepare for the world cup in Argentina.”

The group will join other grading candidates in Brisbane before making the long flight to the South Korean capital, Seoul, this afternoon.
