Industry praise for top realtor

- LYDIA KELLNER

WELL- KNOWN real estate agent John Deldot, 65, has died after losing his battle with cancer yesterday morning.

Mr Deldot, the principal of JRD Realty, was regarded as one of Townsville’s most “ethical and honest” agents, a reputation he earned over more than 35 years in the industry.

He was described as the “go- to man” for all things real estate with many of his colleagues at some point relying on his guidance and advice.

“He only turned 65 about a month ago so his death has come as a shock to many of us,” said friend and industry colleague Mario Torrisi.

“He started out in Mackay but did the bulk of his real estate work in Townsville where he was well- known and liked.

“He was one of the old school — an ethical and honest agent who was always immaculately presented and did the right thing by everyone.”

Realtor and long- time friend Ian Clarke said beside an obvious love for real estate, Mr Deldot was a keen sports fan with a particular passion for the North Queensland Cowboys and horse racing.

“He was real numbers man and with a good eye for horses,” he said.

“He loved his Crown Lager and could often be found at the Townsville RSL.

“I would speak to him at least three times a week so his death has hit me hard. I, and many others, will miss him greatly.”

Mr Deldot is survived by his wife Karen, son Matthew, daughter Simone and five grandchildren.
