WHERE Gregory St meets The Strand has become one of the city’s most vibrant precincts.

Townsville councillor AnnMaree Greaney, whose division takes in the precinct, said Gregory had the right combination of eateries, beauty hubs and retail options.

“It is so important for an area such as Gregory St to thrive as it’s really is the gateway to The Strand,” she said. Cr Greaney said council was committed to the precinct’s beautification program.

“It is part of our overall image to beautify areas such as Gregory St and we will continue to do that,” she said. “But we need business operators to have confidence in investing in the area.”

Local businessman Richard Hannay yesterday opened a new look up- market Red Rooster along Gregory St, known as Reggies.

“Gregory St is a genuine community hub that attracts people all year round,” he said. “There are some great food outlets nearby and we feel we will complement what’s already in the area.”

Mr Hannay has relocated his Red Rooster franchise from Eyre St in North Ward.

“Relocating ... is the right move for the business,” he said. “I’m very excited to be opening and operating one of the first Reggie shopfront restaurants in Australia.”

Mr Hannay said local builder Brenden Plath, from Straightline Constructions, had done a great job showcasing the Red Rooster Reggies design.

“I think our customers will be impressed by the new style of fitout,” he said.

Mr Hannay said the Reggies store design featured the chicken cooking process on full display through the opening of the kitchen and was a new and exciting direction for the brand.
