CEO: Staff feedback vital to council plans

-

THE second round of consultation for Townsville City Council’s proposed restructure closed last Friday, with 308 submissions lodged from staff.

It comes after more than 500 submissions were lodged by staff after the initial consultation on March 13.

CEO Adele Young said that, while the Nous Report laid out the long overdue need for the restructure, feedback from staff and unions had been a vital part of the process.

“No final decision will be made until I go through all of the submissions and I’ll consider making changes where they will deliver a better outcome for the organisation and community,” Ms Young said.

“It’s my intention to finalise the structure over the next few weeks and have it back out to the council’s workforce as soon as possible.

“This is the first major organisational review since the workforces of the two former councils merged in 2008, and it’s an opportunity to ... run a far more financially sustainable council focused on service to the community.

“The council will continue to provide staff, especially potentially impacted employees with advice and access to support services right through the change process.

“Where jobs become redundant, staff will be matched with vacancies within the organisation, offered redeployment and training, and involuntary redundancies will be a last resort.”
