Young dogs to watch
GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds this afternoon with a special 11- race twilight meeting including the RQ Young Gun Heats over 380m.
Race 5 is the first heat and there are a few chances, including Slow Dancer ( 1) for Glen Olsen.
This youngster already has the Young Guns over 498m under her belt back in March this year and she can begin on her night.
Queen of Cawdor ( 7) for Jay Schafer has turned into a versatile sprinter and middle- distance bitch and will be a big danger as she puts in the big strides at the end.
In Heat 2, Ronray Bullet ( 1) for Justin Reid is perfectly drawn on the rails. He won from this box back on April 4 and he has a lot of early speed and can win from here.
Innocent Man ( 8) for Glen Olsen will probably start favourite with a best time of 21.76 seconds. He is in great form now, but the box does not suit as he prefers to be inside.
Arts ( 3) for Harold Hovi broke through his maiden last week in a good 21.92. He has good manners and will be a big danger to the favourite.
In Heat 3, Lead Contender ( 6) for Robert Lound begins only fairly, but gets quickly into stride and can get home strong. He ran a good second last week from the five box and looks a big danger.
Whatta Pass ( 2) for Glen Olsen returned to the winner’s circle last week to be an each way chance.
New arrival from Victoria Brindi Chopper ( 3) for Michael Pandelakis is also an each way shot.
Race 4 is the Doug Murphy Memorial 5th Grade over 380m.
Rockhampton visitor Elite Marj ( 1) for Neville Jackson put in a good run when second here last start behind Go Gwan and she has good box manners and could take the win.
Fellow Rockhampton dog Little Makril ( 8) for Darren Taylor is a big striding dog, so the outside should suit, while Gunnadoo Twist ( 2) for Nancy Maynard is having her first run back from a spell and she likes the inside draw.
Owners, trainers, and patrons have been asked to note kennels close at 2.46pm, with the first race at 3.31pm.
