GR ANVILLE IN DOUB T FOR CRONULLA TRIP
JAKE Granville is once again racing the clock to prove his fitness, after copping a “whack” to his recently healed leg in the Cowboys’ win over the Bulldogs.
The star hooker made his return from a broken leg last Thursday, only to have his night cut short.
Before yesterday Granville had not run on the leg since taking a hit to it against the Bulldogs and says he will have to monitor the injury ahead of this Thursday’s clash with the Sharks.
It will be a massive blow to the Cowboys if Granville cannot play, given he had just made his comeback alongside fullback Lachlan Coote.
“It pulled up a bit sore because of the break and the new bone that’s formed there,” Granville said of his leg yesterday.
“I copped a bit of a whack to it so we’ll have to monitor it this week.
“I’ll just have to see how it goes during training. I haven’t run since I came off the field ( on Thursday). “I don’t want to let the team down so if I’m not right, I won’t be able to play.”
Granville’s return for the Cowboys was a welcome one after his four weeks on the sideline also coincided with the absence of fellow spine members Coote and Johnathan Thurston.
The rake said he felt confident in his return, particularly as the Cowboys notched up a solid win and managed to improve on their energy levels like they had hoped.
He originally fractured the leg late in his side’s Round 5 win over the Rabbitohs and continued to play on after he suffered the break as he thought it was a cork.
Granville said he had broken the same leg once before while playing in Queensland’s Colts competition but said this break wasn’t as bad.
“It was a long time ago when I was playing Colts … I had to go and get it pinned and plated,” Granville said of the previous break.
“This wasn’t as bad as that. I knew it could have always been a lot worse.
“The staff have done a good job of getting it mended and a lot of rehab.
“We were always looking at that ( Bulldogs) game as the comeback and they did a good job to get me back in time.
“For this week I will just have to monitor it after every training session.”
Meanwhile, the Cowboys confirmed yesterday that they have re- signed Kyle Feldt for another three years.
The new contract will see Feldt remain at the club until the end of 2020.
