IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

-

how time- poor I am for games lately, I don’t like to rush them. Nowadays when I get a new game I tend to meander off the beaten path if the game lets me.

When I first played Horizon Zero Dawn, I always stopped to appreciate the fantastic visuals and small details that clearly had a lot of thought put into them. Often while I’m doing this the game will nag me forward. Just let me drift aimlessly, I’m having fun!

Prey is a newly released game made by Arkane Studios. They’ve created a sci- fi game with a fair amount of story and tension, and for what you’d think would be a stark space station setting, the visuals are quite good and there’s much to be learned in exploring.

When I read that someone had finished the game in 20 minutes, I scrunched my mouth up the way that gymnast McKayla did with her not impressed face at the Olympics.

Twenty minutes to finish a game it allegedly took some reviewers 20 hours to finish? Not only did this person not stop to smell the roses but they finished the game by glitching through walls and doors and basically pushing the games internal code to its limit.

Speedrunning is by no means a new concept.

It’s something that is actually quite popular with games like Mario that has actual time limits.

But now the subculture is pushing into games that aren’t being made to be rushed.

I ask you, where is the fun in that?
