4 KIDS STORY TIME
TOWNSVILLE
author Ian McIntosh will help keen young writers to unlock their creative potential at Townsville’s Festival of Stories this week.
The successful children’s author is holding a series of workshops for young children and teenagers at the Savannah event.
“There is something at this year’s event for everyone from creative writing workshops for kids and teens right through to author talks for adults,” Mr McIntosh said.
“There’s even a free ’ 80s theme family roller skating disco where you get to skate side- by- side with authors.”
Mr McIntosh has taught creative writing workshops in schools and public libraries and recently launched a junior writers club which gives children the opportunity to express themselves through regular writing competitions and by offering tips, encouragement and support to the next generation of creative writers.
“In the workshops I am going to show participants how to come up with great ideas and turn them into amazing stories,” he said.
“I am also going to reveal the secret ingredient that transforms mere words into super stories.”
Mr McIntosh said it was important to nurture young writers.
“There are lots of budding young writers out there who have incredible imaginations and who love to write stories,” he said.
“Without recognising and nurturing their love for story writing, these skills will likely get lost along the way.
“So I think it is super important to support and nurture young writers and to let them know that they can grow up to become writers if they really want to.”
