Kenny says this must be last chance for Pearce

-

BLUES legend Brett Kenny says Mitchell Pearce must be axed forever if he can’t lead NSW to an Origin series victory as the maligned NSW No. 7 prepares to return to his house of horrors.

Pearce has never won an Origin game at Suncorp Stadium in six trips to The Cauldron. Overall he holds a deplorable record in a Blues jersey, having only won four of the 15 Origins he has played.

Pearce, 28, has never played in a win- ning series but has been recalled this year and 17- Origin legend Kenny said this must be his last opportunity.

“There are a few guys in the NSW side where I feel if they don’t win this series, it will be the last one they play in and Mitchell is in that group,” he said.

“There are younger guys coming through in several positions and eventually we need to look to the future if we keep losing series. Mitchell deserves to be there on form, no question, and I really hope he can turn things around next week.

“I guess records are there to be broken and Mitchell has the opportunity this week to show he can lead the Blues to victory at Suncorp.

“But if we do get beaten again, Mitchell will be one of several guys pushing 30 with a case to be dropped. It’s not just him. It could be a number of players and even the coach ( Laurie Daley).”
