New idea in work wear

-

F R U S T R A T E D a t not being able to find modern wearable clothing led Townsville- born woman Rowena Burley to design an online plussize clothing shop.

The Elegant Executive Curve founder and CEO Rowena Burley, 48, came up with an idea for a start- up business designing plus- size clothing that restores women’s confidence.

“We have more women in executive and CEO roles where they need to feel confident and successful, and I saw there was a gap in the market for plus- size business wear,” Ms Burley said.

“I have sewn since I was eight years old but once I started working, I became one of those frustrated women who couldn’t find business wear that fitted well.” Plussize online shop Adevee, has invited Ms Burley to feature her fashions on their website, and her clothing line is also set to feature at the Adevee Fashion Festival in Melbourne in October.

Ms Burley has also been invited to speak at the Makers Forum at the Townsville Fashion Festival on May 26.

The businesswoman is also developing an online database of home- based sewers, called iSew Australia.

Ms Burley has created a 12piece collection and the proceeds from sales will be used to buy more fabrics to be manufactured locally by individual women artisans.
