Coach revels in win after Seagulls shut out Dolphins

- RIKKI- LEE ARNOLD PETER BADEL

TWEED Heads coach Aaron Zimmerle called yesterday’s win the “greatest victory” he had ever been a part of, after the Seagulls pulled off the upset of the season against Redcliffe.

The wooden spoon favourites stunned the Intrust Super Cup yesterday, putting on an almighty display to post a 21- 4 win over the Dolphins at Piggabeen.

Redcliffe headed down the M1 as the competition leaders, but returned in a state of shock as they slipped down the ladder after Tweed Heads claimed just their second victory of the season.

Guided by their Titans affiliates in Eddy Pettybourne and William Zillman, as well as halfback Michael Burgess, Tweed Heads opened the scoring in the 4th minute and did not relinquish their lead at any stage, with incredible defence against Adam Mogg’s side.

The loss for the Dolphins saw them fall to third place on the ladder, as PNG claimed a 42- 4 win over Townsville to become the stand- alone leaders, while Sunshine Coast also leapfrogged Redcliffe with a 35- 18 victory over Norths.

Zimmerle said the win could do wonders for the bottom- placed Seagulls.

“For a team where we were sitting to do that against the best side in the comp, it’s really, really exciting,” he said.

Elsewhere, Souths Logan firmed as top six favourites with a 19- 12 win over Easts.
