Hayne uses option to extend Titans stay

- TRAVIS MEYN

THE Jarryd Hayne circus will stay on the Gold Coast for another year and now the Titans want to see their $ 1.2 million man bring Origin- style performances to the Glitter Strip.

Hayne, 29, yesterday exercised an option in his contract to remain at the Titans until the end of the 2018 season, ending months of speculation.

Titans CEO Graham Annesley received notification Hayne would take up the option just hours before he ran out for his 21st Origin appearance on Wednesday night.

In typical Hayne fashion he shone on the big stage, scoring a try, busting out The Hayne Plane and jumping into a sea of Blues supporters in the Suncorp Stadium grandstand.

Now the Titans are hoping he can do the same for them. There have been glimpses of Hayne brilliance in his 12game career for the Gold Coast but he is yet to consistently reach the heights the Titans were hoping for.

“Jarryd showed ( for NSW) the sort of value he can deliver,” Annesley said.

“He’s a great player and still got it. He clearly showed that. Any of the doubts about his ability to perform at the highest level were silenced last night.

“We look forward to him reproducing that sort of form for us. We hope to see him doing that for the Titans.”

Hayne could have made the Titans feel like they genuinely meant something to him by committing to the club earlier, but used nearly every hour of his May 31 deadline.
