KARRIE’S ART A NOD TO NQ

-

TOWNSVILLE artist Brenda Stone’s latest commission has her a little bit starstruck.

Stone has been commissioned by golfer Karrie Webb to create two paintings for her Townsville holiday home.

Webb, who now calls Florida home, grew up in the Burdekin and still fits in visits to North Queensland during her breaks from the professional golfing circuit.

Stone said she was thrilled to be contacted by Webb to create the artworks and met with her at Drill Hall Studio in North Ward earlier this year.

“She wanted to support a local artist and that is great,” she said.

“She approached me, out of all the artists out there she chose me.”

The first of the two artworks is a large abstract landscape, Stone said.

“It’s really pulling in all the colours that are already in her house,” he said. “There’s another painting that will be on the opposite wall that complements it.

“It uses ocean colours ... it brings the outside in.”

Stone worked as the cafe manager at Gloria Jeans Stockland until last year, when she decided to go fulltime with art after breaking her collarbone in a skiing accident in New Zealand.

“I always wanted to focus on my art, but I played it safe,” she said.

Now business is booming, with her custom artworks proving increasingly popular with both corporate and residential clients.
