New appeal hits Adani

-

ADANI’S Carmichael project has been hit with another appeal days after the courts rejected a similar action.

The Mackay Conservation Group has sought a judicial review against the approval of the expansion of the Abbot Point coal port, a project that is part of the $ 16.5 billion coal mine, port and rail project, but is not scheduled to happen in the first phase. The group has been a vocal critic of the project.

It follows a rejection by the courts over the same project last week by the Whitsunday Residents Against Dumping.

“It’s clear there are real risks to the environment if Adani is allowed to construct a new coal terminal, build a massive coal mine and ship its coal out through the delicate Great Barrier Reef,’’ MCG spokesman Peter McCallum said.

It comes as one of Adani’s main opponents bows out of the fight. Land Services of Coast and Country, a group controlled by Derec Davies, to take on Adani in the Land Court has applied to be wound up.
