CHRIS MAKES BOLD MOVE

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON

A TOWNSVILLE pest management business is moving shop to a premises fitted with solar panels to try to reduce its power costs.

Total Pest Management owner Chris Fisher has bought a warehouse with office space at Garbutt for $ 490,000.

He said his company had had grown and needed larger premises.

Mr Fisher said he was won over by the property after learning it was already fitted with solar.

“The cost of energy has been a real issue for us in recent years,” he said.

The 380sq m single- level warehouse is on 1070sq m of land and is in a largely industrial area.

The business will move from Bayswater Rd to the warehouse next month.

Total Pest Management provides building and pest inspections, termite management services, pest services and also partners with Termimesh Townsville.

Mr Fisher said he decided to become an owneroccupier instead of leasing an office space due to Townsville’s affordable commercial market.

“Commercial property prices are at the right price at the moment and the office space is sufficient to allow for expansion,” Mr Fisher said.

“I was actually looking for a place on Woolcock St with a bit more exposure, but the price was right and this is near the Transport Department and nearly everyone ends up going there at some point.

“I’ve got a lot of faith in Townsville, I think it’s the place to be and in the next two years it’s going to be a really good place.”

Knight Frank agent Mark Fitzgerald, who handled the sale, said owneroccupiers were on the rise in Townsville.

“Often their rental rate compared to paying back their own building could be similar or even better,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
