ON- DEMAND TELEVISION JOY RIDE INTO GAUDY PAST
The show – based ( very loosely) on the true story of the women’s wrestling league in Los Angeles – has a pedigree of hit makers behind the scenes including Orange is the New Black and Weeds creator Jenji Kohan on board as executive producer.
On camera, Community’s Alison Brie takes her first big leading role; ironically as an out- of- work actress desperate for a great role she can really sink her teeth into … or just one that will pay the rent.
Her saving grace comes when she gets a tip- off about a casting call for “unconventional women”.
There she meets the ensemble of loveable freaks who make up the rest of the Glorious Women of Wrestling, who provide some of the biggest laughs of the series. Glow is a barmy, hypercolour joy ride with a huge nostalgia factor guaranteed to win over hordes of vocal fans.
