Golf with Karrie suits winners to a tee

-

STAFF from local company Lonegan Project Services will play with Aussie golf legend Karrie Webb after emerging on top of the Townsville Fire’s first annual corporate golf day yesterday.

Fire players and coaching staff were joined on the Willows Golf Course by corporate sponsors and members at the local course and the team from Lonegan were delighted to take out the competition and win a chance to play alongside Webb, a Fire ambassador and seventime major champion.

Lonegan edged out the Mad Cow Tavern and iPlumb in the final standings and after the success of the event Townsville Fire general manager Rich- ard Goodbody was keen to make regular in the club’s calendar.

“The impetus behind the day was to drive a close connection between our corporate community, members, players and staff,” he said.

“We had fantastic conditions at Willows and the event was really warmly received, so we’d love to make it an annual fixture.

“Our club is also fortunate to have such a generous ambassador in Karrie Webb and it will be a real treat for the winning teams to share the fairways with an Aussie golf legend.”

The Townsville Fire have signed players for the 2017- 18 season, with it a Goodbody and his staff in no rush to complete the 10- player roster.

“There’s still plenty of time before the season gets underway and we are tossing up whether to have an import or an Aussie player in that final spot,” he said.

“At this stage we will probably look to add a new development player sooner than the tenth player.”

The Fire’s pre- season will get underway in the first week in September, before the season gets underway first week in October.
