VOLUNTEERS RACE INTO ACTION FOR V8 SUPERCARS: P23
ROWES Bay Golf Club was a working class club, built by railway workers, and 50 years on veterans and past members are being urged to help celebrate the club’s anniversary by sharing their memorabilia.
Veteran golfer Frank Percival ( pictured) is one of the club’s longest- serving members among the burgeoning veterans membership.
He is one of more than 100 veteran members who play golf at the club every week.
Rowes Bay Golf Club promotions co- ordinator Sue Duncan said their veterans sub- committee was one of the largest in North Queensland.
“We have 100 members who play religiously every Tuesday,” she said.
“It is a very popular, it is very well run and they all stay back for presentations, it is just a great day out.”
Mrs Duncan said they hoped people would have memorabilia or photos they could bring along to share as part of celebrations with events to be held throughout the year.
“We do have some memorabilia but not a lot so if people do have any old photos or memorabilia, bring it along, we would love to see it,” she said.
“All past members of the club are welcome to join us for a cuppa and a chat. We would love to see you and I’m sure you have lots of stories to tell and reminisce.”
The Rowes Bay Veterans Committee is hosting the next event on the club’s celebration calendar with a “Back to Rowes Bay” morning tea on Tuesday, July 11 at 9.30am.
