Solarus residents not all in noise army

-

I AM writing in relation to your article on Tuesday, June 37, regarding “Solarus residents” and an alleged row that erupted over noise.

Firstly the plural use of resident is a stretch as I find myself in that group as do several of my friends and neighbours. There are 73 apartments in this complex and I find it somewhat presumptuous of Mr Kingston to assume that we are all joining his army to wage war against the community and especially community groups such as this. Townsville Maritime Museum managing director Esther Slocombe is correct in her assertion that Palmer St is an entertainment precinct and I have chosen to live in this area and I am happy with that decision, and to be mildly inconvenienced ( if I am at all) a couple of times a year is absolutely not an issue especially when weighed up against the positives of living here.

Further to this, Mr Kingston’s commentary regarding the TEL event last August would seemingly be less than factual. I was in attendance at this event and there at the end with other well respected and regarded business leaders, and there was no yelling, screaming or urinating in the bushes. Really, if that was captured on camera it would certainly have been newsworthy. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the event and commend the organisers for an amazing night with superb entertainment.

Not only did I enjoy the convenience of the location, but my house guests opened the doors and enjoyed the music of the 1RAR band.

I also know that some of my fellow Solarus residents took full advantage of the 1RAR band being so close and had their own small parties and some even danced the night away. KAREN READ,

Townsville.
