Mooy inks huge deal with Huddersfield

- DAVID DAVUTOVIC

THE Aaron Mooy- Huddersfield Town fairytale will continue after the promoted club smashed its transfer record to secure the midfielder in a potential $ 20.29 million deal.

It’s understood that Manchester City has the option to buy Mooy back for an undisclosed, albeit higher, fee in a transaction that recoups City Football Group’s $ 11.25 million purchase of Melbourne Heart in 2014.

It’s believed that Mooy, 26, could have earnt as much as $ 1.3 million more a season with other Premier League clubs, but was eager to continue working with Huddersfield’s German boss David Wagner in a FIFA World Cup year.

Mooy’s transfer, worth $ 17 million initially, is set to rise to $ 20.29 million with performance- related add- ons.

Huddersfield came in late for Mooy, along with a German Bundesliga club, but beat at least six other suitors including Southampton and fellow promoted teams Newcastle United and Brighton.

Mooy, who will make his Premier League debut away to Crystal Palace on August 13, said he was delighted to stay with his “family” after a stunning debut campaign.

“Playing for Huddersfield has been a fantastic experience,” Mooy said.
