New vehicle sales surge

AUSTRALIANS bought a record number of new vehicles last month.

Official figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries released yesterday show 134,171 vehicles were reported as sold during June.

That is up 4.4 per cent on the same month last year and the third record June sales figures in a row.

The strong result in June follows record sales in May – the biggest in four years – as buyers continue to cash in on low interest rates.
