Cream of NQ coaches give helping hand to elite juniors
A CONTINGENT of North Queensland’s most talented young rugby league players got a chance to put their names forward at a recent clinic featuring Cowboys under- 20s coach Aaron Payne.
Players from Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, the Atherton Tablelands and Mount Isa took part in the under- 13 Marlins development camp, which culminated in a game at Jack Manski Oval between the 34 players.
Specialist coaching was provided by Payne and Townsville Blackhawks coach Kristian Woolf, while Blackhawks strength and conditioning manager James Moran provided lessons on injury prevention and game preparation.
This year’s camp was held to replace the under- 13 Marlins team that in previous years travelled to the state junior championships.
The end of camp match resulted in a 12- all draw, with camp organisers confident the programs provided will help the players progress and build towards future representative pathways.
