ALEX, 17, GETS UP T O SPEED

- CHRISCH McMAHON

DESPITE being the pup on the circuit, Alex Rullo is still mixing it with the old dogs in the Supercars.

The 17- year- old Supercars debutant believes his youth won’t hold him back when it comes to racing today, after getting a few practices under his belt on the Townsville track yesterday.

“I raced the Dunlop Series here last year, so it’s great to be back, and I’m just keen to get out there,” Rullo said.

“We’ve had a track walk. There are not too many changes from last year – a few different curves – but it’s an awesome track to race at. The hybrid layout, from the street at the start to Reid Park at the second half, I love this track and the curves here.”

He said he wasn’t concerned that he was the youngest on the circuit and felt like he was hitting his straps moving into the second half of the season. “It’s just a number,” Rullo says of his age. “I’ve had a good year so far, learning wise, I’m getting up to speed with it all, I think now that I’m in the second half of the year I can push for some good results.

“The car is looking really good. It’s been one of the good looking ones all year. I think we’re well prepared for the race, that’s for sure.”
