Here’s to JT, he’s our work of art

RUGBY league great Johnathan Thurston has plenty of memorabilia from one of the great sporting careers.

But he now has something from you to hang on his wall. To mark Thurston’s retirement from Origin footy, the Townsville Bulletin and News Corp Australia’s other 12 regional daily newspapers in the state commissioned a special gift to present to the North Queensland Cowboys legend on behalf of readers.

Cartoonist Peter Broelman did a special illustration of the great man, and we framed it and presented it to Thurston in Townsville this week.

It read: ‘’ Thank you from all of Qld.’’ Thurston was humbled by the gift, and even requested a second copy.

“It has been an absolute honour to play for the Queensland Maroons,” he said.

“My teammates will be my friends for life and the memories will stay with me forever. I am truly humbled by the accolades and want to thank the people of Queensland for being champion supporters; you guys are definitely part of our success and I hope I’ve made you proud.”

Bulletin readers can win a poster signed by Thurston by filling out an entry form which will be published in Tuesday’s paper.

The poster will also be published in Monday’s paper for all our readers to enjoy.
