Townsville Bulletin

Build power station or lose poll

-

HYPOCRISY is defined as the behaviour that contradicts what one claims to believe or feels. Which brings me to the subject of our Premier who in the Townsville Bulletin is calling on the Federal Government and the state LNP to rule out coal- fired base load power in North Queensland.

We all know that a state election is on the horizon and we also know how reliant the state ALP is on Green preferences. This is where hypocrisy comes in – we are prepared to export our coal for overseas power generation but not for the generation of cheap base load power of our own.

Well Premier, I personally hope that you will finally realise just how damaging this is to your chances to winning the next election regarding power prices, jobs and investment.

Commit to building the power station, preferably beside the old Collinsville station, combined with the solar station and future hydro on the Burdekin and you will have a good mix of renewables and base load.

Time to get on with it before Queensland is compared to a Third World country. KEV SAWYER,

Townsville.
