Giteau a magnet for Magnay

-

GINGER giant Campbell Magnay has revealed that playing beside Wallaby great Matt Giteau is the tie- breaker in his surprise decision to head to Japan.

How valuable centre Magnay is to the youth makeover at the Reds was clearly demonstrated with his strong 67- minute effort in last Friday night’s 16- 15 upset of the Brumbies.

Runs through the midfield traffic were trademark surges while a push- and- shove with Brumbies flyhalf Wharenui Hawera was typical of his abrasive style.

It only highlights the puzzlement still being felt since Magnay, just 20, decided on departing for Japanese champions Suntory.

“I just want to play rugby and the chance to play in the centres with Matt Giteau was too good not to take,” Magnay said. “It’s great to experience that win with the Reds and I definitely want to be back with the team next year.”
