Father and daughter on track

- LUCY SMITH

TOWNSVILLE father and daughter Dale and Madison Dunston finished their races on a high at the weekend, despite a last minute setback for Ms Dunston.

They came 13th and 17th respectively in race four of the Aussie Racing Cars yesterday afternoon.

Mr Dunston — who was racing in his first ever Townsville 400 — said the last race was his best.

“I finished nice and clean, straight car,” he said.

“That one was my best race. I definitely earnt that race, the other ones I just waited for people to fall off the track but I was racing for position in that one.

“I worked my way up really nicely.”

Ms Dunston said it had been her best race all weekend, despite a spin- out in the last lap.

“I got back up though because of the safety car,” she said after the race.

“It was on turn 13, coming onto the straight so no one knows you’re there.

“It was a bit scary, I could have got a head- on.”

Ms Dunston has been racing V8s for just over a year, and prior to that she had been invovled in gokarting for around a decade.

“She’s doing really well. She’s an ambassador for Townsville and women in motorsport,” said her proud father.
