Cross Catholic College has won the Townsville Bulletin Train with Morgo Challenge after registering the most amount of school kids in the 5km Junior Fun Run and Walk.

In 2017 the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival, in partnership with the Townsville Bulletin and Cowboys star Michael Morgan, rolled out a health and fitness initiative in local schools to encourage student participation in running towards a healthy life.

Students were urged to sign up to the Townsville Bulletin 5km Fun Run and Walk for the chance to meet Morgo.

The school which registered the highest percentage of students would win the prize.

“The enthusiasm in the schools was incredible,” said Townsville Running Festival Committee president Tony Gordon.

“Kids in Townsville absolutely love the Cowboys, so to have someone like Michael Morgan come on board and help encourage kids to live fit and healthy and join the Running Festival is incredible.”

Not only was Morgo involved, the students from schools all over Townsville were also paid a visit by superhero Wonder Woman.

Representatives from the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival donned the lasso of truth and signature red, white and blue to visit the schools and get the kids excited for the festival.

Schools from across Townsville, including Bohlevale State School, Currajong State School, St Patrick’s College, Garbutt State School and Southern Cross hosted the superhero and busily began signing up to compete.

“We here at the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival are incredibly proud of these young people who are signing up to compete in this iconic Townsville event,” said Mr Gordon.

“Keeping Aussie kids fit and healthy is such an important cause in this day and age, so we’re really happy that we were able to encourage kids to get active.”

Southern Cross Catholic College were announced the winner of the competition and are still signing up more and more students as we speak. The school will host Michael Morgan at their campus for a catered Subway lunch and will get some fitness tips from the sporting star.

The 2017 McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival will be held on Sunday, August 6.
