FULL PREVIEW TO OUR BIG RACE

- VICTORIA NUGENT

THE crowds will hit Cluden Park today for the biggest day of the Townsville racing season.

Townsville Cup is expected to draw a crowd of more than 7000 people, with numbers still growing.

Townsville Turf Club chief executive officer Cassandra Cazzulino said there were still plenty of tickets left but almost all the marquee spaces were gone.

“Really we’re on a knife’s edge of having almost no marquee tickets; there are only a few left,” she said.

“That’s great because we had increased our marquees by 30 per cent. Regardless of the numbers we’re hoping to get plenty of people out to enjoy the new Townsville Turf Club.”

The 18+ event will include eight local races, an espresso martini bar, a garden party, fashions on the field and a designer showcase.

Miss World Australia Madeline Cowe will be back in town again as one of the fashions on the field judges.

Ms Cazzulino said buses would run frequently to bring punters out to the track and there was a lot of excitement in the air.

Gates open at 10.30am. Entry is $ 30 and age concessions for $ 15.
