compliments could you? You couldn’t just say, “Thanks! Come visit any time. I’d love to see you” and finish with a sassy hashtag like # wokeuplikethis.
You had to tear yourself down, tell them how horrible you are, tag your friends so they could join you in the Townsville bashing session telling them all about your lack of jobs, huge crime wave, and issues with dryness. I know what you’re going to say. I know it’s hard to love yourself in this age of social media.
You’re constantly comparing yourself to all those perfectly posed selfies on Instagram of Melbourne showing off its laneways and food culture, and Sydney’s gratuitous shots of its harbour.
But you can’t keep comparing yourself to others. What’s the use of that? You can’t change who you really are. You’re not Sydney. You’re not Melbourne.
You’re not even Cairns or Mackay ( we both know you’re better than both of those combined). It’s time to embrace all those things that make you you.
You’ve got a lot to offer, Townsville. You just have to stop being so damn hard on yourself.
