Attacks target wrong tenants

A MOTHER and daughter are living in fear after repeated attacks on their Rosslea home which are aimed at previous tenants.

Maree Rolfe moved into her new home in March with her nine- year- old daughter and has been subjected to the threatening behaviour ever since.

“Obviously the people doing this don’t realise that the other tenants moved out six months ago,” she said.

There had been no mention to Ms Rolfe of any problems at the property before her move.

“I soon realised the neighbours in my unit complex were very happy to have me there because the previous tenants caused a lot of trouble and police always had to come around,” she said.

“They thought their problems with the former tenants had come to an end when we moved in.”

Ms Rolfe said her daughter was terrified.

“We have had smashed windows, all shot with ball bearings, multiple nooses left hanging on the fence, including with effigies of a baby and most recently a dark man, and bullet shells left in the mailbox and thrown on the doorstep,” she said.

“One of the windows was my daughter’s bedroom and her bed was showered in shattered glass. It is lucky we happened to be away that weekend otherwise she would have been hurt.”

Ms Rolfe has pleaded with the offenders to stop, trying to alert them through Facebook, and has also been in contact with police. Since the more recent attacks police have put on extra night patrols, with the most recent incident occurring on Tuesday about 2am.

Sergeant Jason Hancock said he knew of the former residents.

“She is a victim of circumstance really,” he said.

“There are no direct threats towards Ms Rolfe because the threat is towards the previous tenants.”
