Enough of losing: Granville

- TRAVIS MEYN

THEY have been ravaged by injury and written off as NRL premiership contenders but the message has not filtered through to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The Cowboys could be missing eight first grade regulars when they tackle the Sharks at 1300SMILES Stadium tomorrow night in what is shaping as a crucial clash for the finals contenders.

The Cowboys are teetering in eighth position and will drop to ninth if the Dragons upset Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

Heading the list of missing stars are Origin reps Johnathan Thurston, Matt Scott, Gavin Cooper, Michael Morgan and Justin O’Neill.

Throw Antonio Winterstein and possibly fullback Lachlan Coote and five- eighth Te Maire Martin ( both battling knee problems) into the mix and there is a fair chunk of North Queensland’s 2015 premiership stars sidelined.

The excuses are there the Cowboys.

But hooker Jake Granville said they would not be going down without a fight and nothing would be sweeter than putting a dent in Cronulla’s top four hopes.

“Our depth has been tested all year but we’ve got fellas who step up,” he said.

“We believe in ourselves 100 per cent. We think we can get the job done if we play as well as we can and put as much effort in as we have the past couple of weeks but add a bit of polish and execution.

“It’s too late to keep on losing and trying to learn from it. We’ve got to win now.

“We believe we can make the finals which is the main thing.”

Granville said it may have been his most turbulent season since joining the club in 2013. for
