On review, that’s a lot of probes ordered
THE Palaszczuk Government has ordered a new review or inquiry every three business days since taking office in early 2015.
The Government will need to act on the findings of one review a week to complete them by November, when Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is widely tipped to call the next election.
Opposition analysis has found that 213 reviews have been ordered by the Labor Government since its stunning defeat of the LNP.
The finding has fuelled Opposition allegations that Labor has spent its time in office “reviewing rather than doing”.
The analysis includes highprofile probes into the greyhound industry, the state’s parole system and the Barrett Centre closure, as well as lesser known reviews, such as how administrative and support staff are allocated to schools, and the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital’s commissioning processes.
The review into youth detention centres sparked a further two reviews when Crown Law reviewed and redacted the report, and a subsequent review of the redacted report led to a less- redacted report being released.
Dozens of reviews remain incomplete. The Government has not yet announced who will head the latest review, a waste industry investigation announced on Monday.
Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said the huge number of reviews indicated the Government was paralysed.
A spokesman for Ms Palaszczuk dismissed the criticism and said the Government “listens and delivers for Queenslanders”.
