Broncos bruiser battens down for Eels’ retribution

- TRAVIS MEYN

JOSH McGuire is expecting another bruising encounter against the Eels as he prepares to lock horns with the Parramatta players who labelled his tactics “dirty”.

The Broncos will host the Eels at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday in what is shaping up to be a spiteful affair following their high- octane encounter four weeks ago.

McGuire was slammed by Parramatta players following the ANZ Stadium clash, which the Eels won 28- 14, after he stood on the ankle of Eels captain Tim Mannah.

Parramatta were not without fault, with chief antagonist Kenny Edwards getting under the skin of Broncos players for his ugly shot on Brisbane winger Jonus Pearson.

McGuire, 27, has gained a reputation over the past few years for tip- toeing along a fine line in games at both NRL and State of Origin level. And he said he was preparing for another torrid test from a Parramatta side pushing for the top four.

“The same thing again,” he said when asked what he was expecting.

“It will be a tough game. I’m looking forward to playing them.

“I’ll play the same way I’ve played footy since I was a kid. The coach wants me to go out there and do my job so I will go and do it.”

The loss to the Eels highlighted problems with Brisbane’s defensive attitude and stand- in hooker Sam Thaiday said they wanted to continue their recent form.

“You need a bit of aggression out there,” Thaiday said.
