Professor features in book

- DANNI SHAFIK

TOWNSVILLE Hospital urogynaecologist Professor Ajay Rane continues his global crusade for women’s health with his own chapter being featured in an educational text.

The book, Garjie Marathi, is about global influencers in technology, medicine, theatre, economics, engineering and business, including the vice- president of the Asia- Pacific arm of Boeing, who hails from the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

Mr Rane, the newest member of the Townsville Hospital and Health Board, said his inclusion in the book was a tribute to his father, Dr Murli Rane, who died in May aged 86. “My father took us from a privileged life in England when I was six years old to return to Maharashtra to build a hospital and provide medical care in his small village.

“The next few years weren’t easy for me or my brother but it gave us perspective.

“My father was an inspiration and I’d like to think he would be proud I’m a part of this book from his homeland.”

Garjie Marathi, translates to “Roaring Marathis” and features 34 nonresident Maharashtrians who have made significant global contributions in their fields of expertise.

Board chairman Tony Mooney congratulated Professor Rane.

“It’s wonderful to see our hospital and university profiled in an international publication particularly on the back of our recent signing the Memorandum of Understanding with JCU,” he said.
