Raceway hosts big meeting
SUNCITY Raceway in Bohle will be buzzing with action this weekend as the Road Racing Association of Townsville ( RRAT) host the Townsville Tourist Trophy.
The event will incorporate two separate Queensland championships, the state supermotos titles and the Queensland short course road race championships.
RRAT club secretary Drew Pemberton said the club expected its biggest year ever with over 90 competitors, including juniors, travelling from across the country to compete.
“This is our ninth year and we’ve had more nominations than ever,” he said.
“In particular the historic racing community has really got behind us. There’s a big group from the Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria and they have some beautiful historic bikes.
“We also have the supermotos which are super- fast, modern machines so there’s some great contrast there.”
Current Australian supermoto champion Andy McLeish headlines a quality field of riders in his division, with the Proserpine product expecting some tough competition from intrastate rivals.
Racing starts at 9am tomorrow, leading in to the Britrac One Hour Team Endurance race from 8pm, before getting underway on Sunday at 8.30am.
Entry is $ 5 a person or $ 10 a car, with food and drinks available. Spectators are encouraged to wear closed- in shoes so they can visit the pits.
Another highlight for the weekend will be the sidecar charity race where RRAT is donating $ 500 to the Townsville Hospital Foundation Type 1 Diabetes Children Camp fund. For more information visit www. faceb o o k . c o m / R o a d - R a c i n g - Association- of- Townsville
