Gallant loss no option: Jamell

- MICHAEL THOMPSON

TOWNSVILLE Heat import Jamell Anderson will not be happy with his team coming away from Mackay with their pride intact, or some other intangible prize.

He wants to leave the sugar cane capital with the men’s QBL championship trophy, and even though the Heat may be underdogs for the threegame grand final series starting tonight, Anderson ( pictured) says giving Mackay y a fight will not be enough.

“We worked super hard to o get to this situation, so I think k we have a lot to lose,” he said.

“All season we’ve put in a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of focus.

“I believe we’re going in there with everything to lose, and I’d like to think that everybody’s focused to get that win.”

The British big man linked with fellow import Justin Baker to play the role of lategame hero in last weekend’s two- point semi- final win over Cairns, Anderson nailing a huge three- pointer to draw terms just as Cairns appeared to be streaking away with a late win.

The pro- Heat crowd was behind Anderson and his teammates in every big play, but come tonight they will receive nothing but hostility from Mackay’s fanatical supporter base.

Anderson says he couldn’t care less. “It’s going to be no different to being at home really,” he said.

“Obviously they’ll be cheering for a different team, but we got each other and we’ll stay behind each other for the whole game and fight our way through it.

“I enjoy those type of games anyway.

“Everybody knows what’s happening, everybody knows their role and everybody’s been calling each other out on little things in practice to maker sure we’re sharp.”

Anderson wants the series wrapped up by Saturday night, but if it goes to a third game so be it.

“We have the bodies to do that and everybody’s been staying in shape,” he said.

“This is where it’s going to count.”
