Cowboys cautious on Tigers
The Tigers are 15th but are threatening to be the finals spoilers having found some form in recent weeks, the highlight a comeback win over Manly.
Asked what makes the Tigers a tough nut to crack, Cowboys halfback Michael Morgan said their unpredictability and willingness to throw the ball around was hard to prepare for.
“They play a very unstructured game at times and got us early in the year,” he said.
“The way they defend is different to some other sides as well. We’ll have to try and contain guys like ( James) Tedesco and Aaron Woods in the middle; on their day they can beat anyone in the comp.
“They have built up some momentum lately since Ivan Cleary took over and we’re starting to see that.”
The Tigers have lost all three games they have played at Campbelltown this year, and a loss would mean they go winless at one of their spiritual grounds for the first time.
It will be Woods and Tedesco’s final game at Campbelltown in the orange and black before they head to Canterbury and the Roosters respectively next year.
“Especially for James who is a local down there; it’s probably dawning on them it’s almost over,” Cleary said.
“While it ( pressure) is more on them ( Cowboys) in this case, we still really want to win. We’ve been down to Campbelltown a few times this year and they haven’t been our best performances.
“I reckon it’s an eight- week period where we’ve been competitive and won a few games. It’s been more settled around here, there was a fair bit going on through the middle of the year.
“Once a few things were cleared up and you guys ( media) weren’t turning up every day, it settles things down and it’s showing on the field.”
