Courting chaos by giving young crims free run
DOCUMENTS were leaked indicating the State Government had decided juvenile offenders were to be kept out of the detention centres at all costs ( TB, 13/ 1/ 17).
This has been corroborated with the seven minors apprehended after allegedly stealing three cars on August 13 and driving to Charters Towers to commit more offences.
They were apprehended en route back to Townsville, about 5am, after causing serious damage to one of the stolen vehicles.
This was a planned operation indicating they are developing the capacity to plan sophisticated offences.
Once more, the revolving door representing our justice system ran them quickly out on the streets again.
Then we learnt seven delinquents allegedly stole another car on August 18 causing an accident by steering it into the path of an innocent driver.
On the bright side, Acting Supt Crosby commented, “Thankfully no one was seriously injured” ( TB, 22/ 8).
The fact anyone was injured at all clearly demonstrates the “system” is not protecting the community in any way, while nurturing the predators prowling our streets every night.
To make matters worse we learn three of these underdeveloped little crooks were allegedly involved in the incident five days earlier.
This raises questions. How could it be that delinquents, caught after supposedly planning and committing a series of serious offences are incurred on society so rapidly again?
It’s difficult to believe our magistrates are so incompetent or naive to willingly do this, so is it deliberate government methodology?
Forget about the myth of separation of powers, I suggest orders have been given at senior government levels ( in accordance with leaked documents), offenders are not to be held in custody.
Face it, the prisons and youth detention centres are too overcrowded so we have nowhere to put them.
The first reaction is to construct more custodial facilities. Create jobs while building and later with staffing them. But they cost money, therefore, we must consider which health services, schools, roads or other public amenities will be sacrificed in order to safely go about our business.
Unfortunately, as the general population grows, the venal creatures who prey upon us also increase, consequently there is little choice but to build more prisons thus giving us some respite from the law breakers.
Another question is how the parents/ guardians of the subject adolescents did not exercise their responsibility in stopping the kiddie crims leaving their homes?
If they can’t stop them, they least should alert the police.
If they don’t care, the children should be removed from the homes and the child allowance cancelled.
It is time this stupid government stopped concentrating on signs at petrol stations and risque comments on motor vehicles and tackled matters important to the people. JEFF WILLIAMS,
