HOMEGROWN actress Harriet Dyer is heading to the US seeking a big career break. The Townsville- raised star of Love Child is set to enjoy plenty of exposure with roles in comedy series The Other Guy and horror film Killing Ground, and flies to the US today for meetings with casting agents and auditions.

HOMEGROWN actress Harriet Dyer is leaving on a jet plane today to try to nab some big career breaks, but it’s not a permanent goodbye.

The star of Channel 9’ s Love Child is about to get a lot more exposure thanks to her roles in Stan comedy series The Other Guy and horror movie Killing Ground, which premiered in January at the renowned Sundance Film Festival. The Townsville- raised actress has been on tour in the past few weeks to promote the two projects.

“I like to play all sorts of different roles,” she said. “I try to be a bit of a shapeshifter.

“These are both great characters — I’m really proud to be playing them.”

Today she will fly to the USA for meetings with casting agents and auditions but said she would still use Sydney as a home base.

“I’m just looking to have a foot in each pond,” she said. “It’s sort of what I have already been doing. I’ve been there four weeks ago for meetings. If I get a job in the US, I’ll do it, if I get a j job in Australia, I’ll come b back for that.“

Dyer says she’s had to t turn down roles with the Sydney Theatre Company this year because they clashed with pilot season in the US.

“That’s a really i important time to be in the US for actors so I had to say no,” she said. “I’m s still very much in a relationship with the Sydney Theatre Company.”

Dyer confirmed she was dating ex- Offspring star Patrick Brammall ( inset) but said she wanted to keep that side of her life private. “I’ve just done these two amazing shows and people are talking about who I’m dating. How boring is that? I’m just so proud of these two projects ... why can’t I just stand tall by myself? It’s a problem that men don’t really have to deal with.”

Local fans will be able to watch Killing Ground at the Great Barrier Reef Film Festival on Magnetic Island on September 10.
