Students make all that hard work pay

- VICTORIA NUGENT

WHEN exam supervisors called for pens down at the Queensland Core Skills Testing it was a milestone moment for 1600 students across the Townsville region.

The two days of QCS testing are a key part of Year 12, contributing information to calculate their Overall Positions.

Year 12 students Monica Donovan and Alexandra Vicatos said they were relieved the testing, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, was over. “It’s stressful sitting the tests but we’ve had a lot of practice using past QCS tests, so that has really helped us to know what to expect,” Alexandra said.

St Patrick’s College principal Paulina Skerman said the girls were happy to have finished the QCS testing.

“It’s certainly an important milestone for our Year 12 girls and they’ve been preparing for this all year,” said Ms Skerman.

“They have completed two full days of testing of common curriculum elements involving writing, short response and multiple choice tests.”

Ms Skerman said the whole college supported the students for the QCS.

“Our college P& F hosted breakfast for the girls on both mornings of the tests to ensure they had the best start to the day,” she said.

“All other students from Years 7- 11 formed a guard of honour as the girls entered the classroom on the first day of the test to wish them well.”
