UNDERSEA OPPORTUNITIES
A great research opportunity has opened for a research team at JCU, ( Enjoying Whale of a Tale on Reef, TB, August 28). A unique dwarf minke whale was recently photographed near Lizard Island by a JCU research team. JCU is a university that can give many people once- in- a- lifetime opportunities and this is certainly a great example of it. Being able to photograph a whale in its natural habitat is an extraordinary opportunity and an exciting prospect. It also gives them a great experience to see how to use underwater filming equipment and how to photograph marine animals. Hopefully many more expeditions are held in the future so more students can experience rare opportunities JCU can offer. Elizabeth Richards Year 6, Hermit Park State School
WHALE WONDERS
An amazing research opportunity has opened for a team of researchers from JCU, ( Enjoying Whale of a tale on reef, TB, August 28). A small wondrous whale was recently able to be photographed by the JCU researchers just near Lizard Island. It’s great that the research team has taken this perfect opportunity to take a picture of this amazing marine creature in its habitat as it’s quite exciting for research. It means now they can now look deeper into this animal and unravel a whole lot of facts and information that could be very useful and interesting. It is great the JCU research team in my opinion have photographed the whale and are now studying the whale and I hope they are able to uncover more mysteries of these marvellous marine mammals. STAFF SHORTAGE
Townsville is beginning to offer more jobs for those who are unemployed but is a job really what they want? ( Jobless don’t want to work, says boss, TB, July 21). Some of Townsville’s businesses are in dire need of staff but those hired will simply not turn up or make excuses not to come. The reason is because they simply don’t want to get out of bed. This is a situation that must be dealt with as it will create laziness and bad habits, it also means that businesses looking for workers don’t get the help they need causing the downfall of Townsville’s infrastructure. As Townsville does not have a very high tourism level, we rely on exporting products. Hopefully people will turn up for their jobs and local business can continue working.
