PERFECT FINISH
Centre revamp nearing end
A $ 10 million remake of the City Point shopping centre in Townsville’s CBD is nearing completion with fit- outs just starting for tenants including the Commonwealth Bank, Zambrero and Coco Mexico. The Lancini Property and Development project is creating large- format tenancies and a new integrated two- level building fronting the corner of Sturt and Stokes streets which will provide about 1200sq m of additional retail and office space. The redevelopment will become a vibrant mixed- use centre incorporating retail, hospitality, office and retail showrooms. The two- level building is being built over the carpark of the former Woolworths store, which has relocated to the City Arcade, while an existing 112- space basement carpark in the existing City Point building is being retained, along with tenants Cafe Bambini and the Department of EmergencyE Services. The design incorporatesr bold architecture on the prominent Sturt and Stokes street corn ner. Lancini group acquis sitions and developm ment manager Rick M McLaren said the rede- velopment would provide a sheltered internal urban parkscape and civic space designed to bring the outdoors in.
Some of the design elements will incorporate weather screening, while the property also offers tenants a large vehicle loading dock catering for heavy vehicles up to semi- trailer size.
Mr McLaren said the project was designed to meet the growing demand and evolving tenant requirements of the Townsville CBD.
The developer is seeking expressions of interest from A- grade commercial tenants and large- format retailers such as electrical appliances, homewares, sporting goods, services and general retail showrooms.
“With the Townsville CBD coming of age, it is critical to supply the appropriate retail and commercial offering and infrastructure to support a vibrant city centre,” Mr McLaren said.
“This project is estimated to cost in excess of $ 10 million, creating more than 40 new jobs for Townsville.
“City Point is another great example of Lancini Property and Development providing quality developments and infrastructure in the Townsville CBD.”
The redevelopment is creating about 30 construction jobs with more expected in fitout work.
Handover to tenants is happening shortly with an expected completion on track for December.
