- CHRIS McMAHON

A CONDON woman has woken to an intruder kissing her on the lips.

The man fled after woman started screaming.

District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Joe Matheson said the woman, 33, was terrified by the ordeal which occurred about 4am yesterday.

“She woke and yelled out for this person to get out of the house and she saw this male run from her bedroom and exit the dwelling into the backyard and the victim gave chase and later locked the laundry door,” he said.

“Three other children sleeping in another room were not thought to be assaulted in any way or disturbed by the offender.”

Sen- Sgt Matheson said police from the Rapid Action Patrol group rushed to the the home with the dog squad and searched for the man, who had also taken the woman’s purse and mobile phone.

“Police are still searching for the offender,” he said.

It was one of nine break and enters on Thursday night, with four cars stolen from homes, adding to the 14 vehicles stolen in the 48 hours beforehand.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls was shocked to hear crime had increased again and said his party had the solution to the issues in Townsville.

“I was horrified to read in today’s media that young criminals continue to treat the Townsville community with total and utter disdain,” Mr Nicholls said.

“A future LNP government I lead will make no apologies for being tough on youth crime and we will introduce some of the toughest laws in the nation to combat this scourge.”
