Events award to new rodeo

A TOWNSVILLE rodeo has won a state events award.

The North Queensland Elite Rodeo placed third in the Australian Event Awards in the best new event category for its sold- out rodeo last year.

Quentin Kersh, who owns the Hervey Range rodeo ground where the event is held, said it was humbling to receive the award. “We believed in ourselves and the event we put together but this really shows that there’s gratitude,” he said.

The invitation- only rodeo features 12 competitors in eight events and Mr Kersh said next year he wanted to focus on enhancing the junior categories.

“It’s all about the junior development in rodeo,” he said.
