I NTERNATIONAL f a s hi on retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB will open its Townsville store on October 19.

H& M announced the much- vaunted opening of its new store at Stockland Townsville as well as another in Rockhampton on November 2.

Stockland Townsville owners have welcomed the announcement and say they are continuing to push plans for an entertainment and leisure precinct on a site opposite the centre in Elizabeth St.

The stores at Stockland Townsville and Stockland Rockhampton will be the seventh and eighth H& M stores to open in Queensland and will both be set over one floor and span across about 2500sq m.

Australian country manager for H& M, Hans Andersson, said the stores would offer exceptional shopping experiences by showcasing apparel, underwear and accessories for men, women, children and babies with the Townsville store having the addition of its Home concept.

“We are excited to be making further progress on our expansion in regional Queensland with the launch of our H& M stores at Stockland Townsville and Stockland Rockhampton,” Mr Andersson said.

“We look forward to meeting our H& M customers in both Northern and Central Queensland and engaging them with our wide range of offers.”

Stockland Trust group executive and CEO commercial property, John Schroder, said the H& M Townsville store was still under construction.

“We’re thrilled to confirm the imminent arrival of H& M to Stockland first store Queensland,” said.

“It’s great to see this international fashion brand investing in regional Queensland and we’re proud to be able to support H& M as they move into this market.

“H& M is a great addition to our already strong fashion offering at Stockland Townsville.”

Mr Schroder said Stockland continued to progress plans for a “future entertainment and leisure precinct”.

The development was approved by Townsville City Council in 2014 and was proposed to include an eightscreen cinema complex, restaurants, cafes and gym.

H& M entered the Australian market in 2014. Today, it has 22 stores nationwide. Townsville, the for Northern Mr Schroder
