Campaigners do cause no good with ridicule

-

FIRST Brexit, then Hillary; will the “Yes” campaign also snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

I am amazed how the popular media thinks what they believe to be true is the only truth permitted.

Anyone with a contrary opinion is ridiculed and labelled an idiot.

The plebiscite is for all Aus- tralians to have their say and for neither side to abuse or demean the other but this is happening with monotonous regularity.

If there is one lesson the world should learn from Trump is people don’t enjoy being ridiculed for daring to have their own beliefs.

I listened to one radio personality gleefully read mean tweets surrounding the launch of the “No” vote. His favourite was the one which labelled the skywriter responsible for writing “Vote No” in the sky as the Wicked Witch of the West.

He either doesn’t realise or doesn’t care that 40 per cent or the population don’t agree with him. They don’t like being ridiculed for their belief/ faith/ experience, whatever brought them to their decision.

Let me be clear, I will vote “Yes” in as big a tick I can fit in the square. I find it atrocious we are even having this waste of money, Turnbull could have gone down in history as a statesman and not spineless. GREG LESLIE,

Annandale.
